Designing for a Multi-Generational Congregation

Updated: Sep 8, 2021

There is so much planning that goes into designing a beautiful and functional church that is relevant to all age groups. It starts with understanding how the spaces will be used and cater to the entire experience. The parking, the entry, gathering spaces indoors and out, to the sanctuary, all need to feel welcoming, provide a sense of community, and define the culture. Including innovative social and multi-use spaces are essential for human interaction between multi-generations, while catering to individual generations. Churches are becoming the social center of the community. It is our responsibility to design an efficient but engaging facility that helps the mission reach their goals and take them into the future.

The Elim Church’s unique design in this photo is pointing towards spirituality rising. It is currently under construction in the North Side of Chicago.
